Are Jump Strength Training Shoes Really Worth The Money? We Tested Them Here…

Jump strength training shoes can run you anywhere from $79 - $159 depending on the manufacturer. For most of us, that is a descent investment. Now what we need to find out is.....are jump strength training shoes worth the money? Let's find out...

Strength shoes are designed with a 1.5" hard rubber platform attached under the balls of your feet which prevent your heels from directly hitting the ground. This will make your calf muscles have to work harder in any exercise that you perform in them. In reality, I'll admit that many people DO increase their vertical jump using platform shoes. However, the improvement is because of the drills and exercises they do not by the magic of the shoes.

Many scientific studies have been performed comparing people who use strength shoes and people who do not. The exact same training program is used for both groups of people. What these studies show is that the people who are not using strength training shoes increase their verticals at the same rate as those who are using the shoes. In some instances the people not using the shoes had a bigger increase in their vertical leap.

The workout was provided by the manufacturer. It randomized 12 intercollegiate track and field participants to a Strength-Shoe group and a normal-shoe group. After 8 weeks of a training program supplied by the manufacturer, the normal-shoe group showed a tendency to improve more than the Strength-Shoe group on all performance measures!

The non-strength shoe group had a larger increase in their 40 yard dash time, vertical leap, slow speed strength, and fast speed strength. The only area in which the strength shoe group improved more was in calf circumference. Out of the six athletes in the strength shoe group, two complained of shin splints and one individual had to completely drop out of the study due to the pain.

I'm definitely not telling you not to use strength shoes. You may really like them and that is great. I am just here to inform you of the studies that were done. I personally do not use strength shoes and I have been able to increase my vertical by 12 inches in a little more than 7 months.

I don't recommend using strength shoes as your primary means to increase your vertical leap. If you do, you will not get the type of gains you desire. You need to have a vertical leap program that covers a combination of plyometric exercises and strength training. If you implement a program like this you will start to see some incredible results in your vertical leap.

Just by taking a few moments to learn the proper jumping form can give you an instant increase of 2-4 inches in your vertical! If you would like additional information on how you can improve your vertical leap and get the EXACT program that I used to increase my vertical then check out the links that I have below:
